Be Curious About Your Current Weight

Hello, nurse friends! My name is Charmaine Platon. I’m a Registered Nurse and Certified Life & Weight Loss Coach, and I’ve been working as a bedside med-psych nurse for 6 years now (where has the time gone?).

I created this blog as a way to teach nurses all the weight loss strategies that I’ve used on myself that have had a significant impact on how I feel about work, my life, and my body. I never imagined I would be using the tools I’m using now to help improve my health.

Because, you see, here’s the truth — Weight loss starts in the mind.

Not in your diet. Not in your crazy intense workouts. Not in your supplements.

But in your mind.

This was a hard concept for me to grasp (as a fitness nut and certified personal trainer)!

But what I quickly learned as a personal trainer is one extremely important thing: You can’t make anyone take care of themselves. You can give them all the workouts they want and tell them how to eat, but nothing will change unless that person wants to. I learned that the hard way.

Knowing this, I want to ask you all a question: Why do you weigh what you weigh right now?

Really think about that. The answer to this question is the reason why you are at the weight you are at right now. And that is perfectly okay. The important thing here is that we are learning more about ourselves. After all, we can’t change and sustain our weight loss until we first understand why we are not yet at the weight we want!

Did you come up with your answer? If you had a difficult time answering that, here are a few more insightful questions:

  1. What do you weigh right now?

  2. What actions are you taking that are causing you to be at that weight?

  3. Why are you doing those things?

Knowing the answer to these three questions is so powerful because once we know what we are actually doing that’s preventing us from reaching our goal weight, then we can truly understand more about ourselves to discover the cause of our current weight.

Once we know that cause, then we can work on changing to reach our goal weight (which I will talk about more in future blog posts).
